Kainga Ora (Noho Ᾱhuru) win at the Spirit of Service Awards

  • 18 September 2019

The Spirit of Service Awards 2019 celebrate outstanding public sector leadership delivering exceptional outcomes for New Zealanders.

The Awards were open to entries from central and local government agencies. This year’s award categories received more than 80 entries. Finalists were announced in June and the ceremony took place at Te Papa, in Wellington, on the 12th September 2019.

Congratulations to our Kainga Ora team who won the Better Outcomes Award and the special Prime Ministers Award (overall winner) for the Healthy Homes Initiative at the Spirit of Service Awards function.

The Healthy Homes Initiative has significantly reduced hospital visits and antibiotic prescriptions for children in 16,000 families through 46,000 collaborative housing interventions to create warmer, drier homes. It delivers incredible results with big heart. The Healthy Homes Initiative is focused on the needs of whānau and allowing frontline providers to innovate. People on the ground are setting priorities with whānau and telling the agencies what’s needed. The initiative is now operating across most of the North Island.

A big congratulations to the team, Gaylene Sharman, Hiki Wihongi and Roma Ripikoi, for this awesome achievement!
Gaylene and Hiki attended the Awards night on behalf of Te Puna Manawa HealthWEST, alongside their colleagues from the Ministry of Health, DHB's, and the community. A big congrats to everyone involved.
