Dr Philip Rushmer

Chairman

Graduate of Guys Hospital London.   Spent five years in General Practice in England, but for the last thirty years have been in general practice in Titirangi with a strong emphasis towards obstetrics and women’s’ health.  Inaugural Chair of the General Practitioner Council of the New Zealand Medical Association from 1997 then served on its board for several years until 2006.  Inaugural Chair of the General Practitioner Committee of HealthWEST from 2006.

Appointed Chair of HealthWEST in June 2007.  West Auckland has the largest ‘high needs’ population of any area within the Waitemata district health board catchment, with the lowest number of general practitioners per population to serve them.  I am committed to improving the health of west Auckland peoples through supporting high quality general practice teams and encouraging enrolment of our population to these teams.  Recognition and funding of our primary care needs by the DHB will be an area of focused endeavour during my term as chair.
