HealthWEST Men’s Health Pilot Project
Starting in November 2009, HealthWEST is running a FREE Men’s Health Pilot Project. The project will run for a year or until a 1000 men have received full and comprehensive health checks. We know many men fail to see a GP, or health care provider, for many reasons such as “I’m OK”, I don’t feel too good, but it will go away”, or “haven’t got time”. This may be why many men die at a much younger age than women. This leaves families/whanau without fathers, husbands, sons and brothers.
Just like getting your car serviced and warranted we need to get regular health checks. Most importantly regular health checks allow some illnesses to be found early and fixed, than rather than leaving problems until we cannot ignore them, which means it is often TOO LATE to cure it!
Getting a regular health check gives you a chance to add life to the years you live, not just add years to your life.
The project gives the men of Waitakere an opportunity to receive a comprehensive health check worth up to $160.00 absolutely FREE! The health check will check for heart disease, diabetes, mental and emotional well-being and screening for some cancers common in men.
Who can receive FREE men’s health checks?
- If you are a male without a regular doctor or have not had a comprehensive health assessment in the last five years.
- Llive within the Waitemata District Health Board area.
- Aged between 35-70 years.

Have a look at the list of practices participating in the Men’s Health Project. Find the practice that you find the most convenient for you to get to and give the practice a call to book an appointment today.
